1989 BMW E30 325IS HP Evo2
This 1989 BMW E30 325IS EV0 2 HP (High Performance) is part of my personal collection which I have owned for nearly 20 years, one which I carried out a nut & bolt restoration, regrettably its now available for sale.
1989 BMW E30 325 I Sport, South African spec similar to the Alpina but more power, not your regular E30, as the South Africa didn’t get the M3 the 325IS HP Evo 1 & 2 were created, it combined M3 running gear, M20 2.7 engine from Alpina and additional parts from the E28 535i. This E30 has nearly all the extras any E30 owner would dream to have, finished in Diamond Swartz Black, low owners and full BMW service history, matching numbers, 2.7 high compression engine, Getrag 245 close ratio 5 speed Sports (Dogleg – first down) gearbox.
See the link below for the full history of the South African 325is HP Evo 1 &2

This E30 was first registered 01.08.1989 and sold by Wollaston BMW in Northampton to a Mr A Warr of Daventry, Northampton, who owned the vehicle for 6 years to about 1995 covering a total of approx 118,000 miles and with no expense spared, spending well over £9,000 at BMW (according to the receipts I have from Wollaston BMW.
The E30 was then passed on to its second owner a Mr Killpack of Banbury, Oxon, who kept the car until around 1999/2000 with approx 170,000 miles and carried out work to the cylinder head including new camshaft, rockers and valves, I have receipts from Cronk of Banstead BMW.
A third owner Mr Watts of Banbury who owned the car till around 2002/2003. An MOT was carried out in Banbury on 05.10.2001 at 171,009 miles also have some receipts from Damon Hill BMW.
A fourth owner who I have no name from Brackley, Northants, owned the vehicle until around 2006/2007. Three MOTs were carried out in Northants, 1st on 31.10.2003 at 174,268 miles, 2nd on 01.11.2004 at 175,864 miles and 3rd on 15.10.2005 at 179,421 miles.
The fifth owner a Mr Medhurst of Plymouth owned the vehicle for about 3 months from 10.06.2007 to 15.09.2007. An MOT was carried out in Plymouth on 06.07.2007 at 180,546 miles.
The sixth owner Mr W Rahman of Birmingham who I purchased the vehicle from owned the vehicle for only 25 days from 15.09.2007 to 09.10.2007.
I have owned this E30 since 2007 and the was moted on 17.10.2008 at 183,112 miles before I started to carry out a full restoration work. The restoration work started at 2008 and the car was complete in 2017. Yes it took 9 years of work from one garage doing one thing and another garage doing another, some times the garage closed down and the car being stuck for a year or two, it’s a long story and everything is well documented.
In short the 9 years helped me to save and collect parts to the car it is now, some parts are now rare and very hard to find. I can write a full book on this car but trying to keep it short as possible. The car was completely stripped out from bare shell to bare engine block and put back together with either new genuine BMW parts, New premium quality parts, New uprated parts and refurbished parts.
I have every single receipt/invoice from 2008 to 2024 most from Birmingham BMW, taking the amount well over £20k (I stopped counting after £20k). I have three folders full of paperwork including the previous history old mots and everything what has been done in my ownership.
The E30 came with the standard Sport spec including, PAS, EW, EM, E/Tilt & Slide sunroof, CL, E/Black mask aerial, ABS, Air Conditioning, Map reading lights, Front wash wipers, Front fog lights, x2 on-board computers including the 15 button obc, Rear shelf blind, Alloy wheels, Twin exhaust, Factory Mtech 2 Bodykit including boot spoiler, Leather interior, Rear headrests, Rear armrest, Black roof lining, Factory dechromed exterior trims, Genuine BMW alarm/immobiliser, BMW torch, Mtech 2 (370mm) leather steering wheel, Leather dogleg gear knob, LSD & Floor mats.
The body & paintwork on the E30 is concours, it was completely stripped out including the wiring loom, all glass, interior dash basically to bare metal, some welding work was carried out to the bulk head and new panels were replaced which included the o/s outer sill and front scuttle panel from BMW, all the work was carried out by WMARC in West Midlands.
Mechanically the E30 is spot on with all the parts either replaced or refurbished, the engine was completely stripped down to bare block cleaned and put back together with new parts supplied by C1 BMW, all gaskets, seals, nut, bolts and washers were replaced with new ones from BMW. All suspension, steering and brake parts were replaced with new uprated parts these include, Shocks, Springs, Brakes, cables, all the bushes, hoses, Fuel tank etc, other parts were cleaned and powder coated including, wishbones, subframes, Inlet manifold, rocker cover, basically everything was taken off replaced to every nut & bolt, the underside is better than it left the factory all is new and powder coated, all the mechanical work was carried out by RSJ BMW Specialist in Birmingham. It is currently on approx 188k miles so it has only covered 5,000 miles since the rebuild.
I will try to put down everything I can remember in bullet points as it will be easier.

I have taken this E30 to a few shows around the country, it was featured at the NEC practical classic car show finals in 2022. It won the ‘Best Retro’ at BMW show Santa Pod in 2023. I drove to Netherlands to attend the Bimmerfest gathering at raceway Venray in 2024 (the Brussel LEZ certificate is valid till 2029)
Overall a very well built E30 with a lot of extras not your usual E30, in concourse condition and built to a very high standard with no expense spared.
Comes with all the books and all the user manuals, all previous MOTs, all previous BMW history from when it was first registered in 1989, all the restoration paperwork and believe me there is tons of it, pictures of the restoration work on USB, HPI clear and 2 sets of keys.
